The School Counseling program provides the necessary coursework to prepare counselors for work in school counseling departments with a diverse population of students. School counselors typically work in both public and private elementary, middle, and high schools. Graduates use their specialized training to promote the social and emotional well being of students to enhance their academic success.

Hear from current students and alumni on their experiences in the Counseling (MA) programs at Montclair:

“I am so happy that I chose Montclair State University for my MA in Counseling with a concentration in School Counseling. I was lucky enough to serve as a Graduate Assistant, cultivating close relationships with several faculty members that have continued even after graduation. I am currently working on a research study with some of those same professors. Additionally, the program’s course offerings afforded me the opportunity to connect with and learn from counseling students in other concentrations, which has helped me become a well-rounded school counselor. I felt very supported throughout my internship experience and left Montclair State prepared and eager for the challenges of being a school counselor.”
